编者按

《长歌行》，属汉乐府中的“相和歌辞”，是劝诫世人惜时奋进的诗篇。全诗以景寄情，由情入理，将“少壮不努力，老大徒伤悲”的人生哲理寄寓于朝露易干、秋来叶落、百川东去等意象，借以发出时光易逝、生命短暂的浩叹，鼓励人们紧紧抓住随时间飞逝的生命，奋发努力，趁少壮年华有所作为。今天推介的三版英译来自翻译家许渊冲、赵彦春和叶如钢，请大家赏读。

长歌行

青青园中葵，朝露待日晞。

阳春布德泽，万物生光辉。

常恐秋节至，焜黄华叶衰。

百川东到海，何时复西归？

少壮不努力，老大徒伤悲。

许渊冲

A Long Song

The mallow in the garden green in hue

Awaits the sun to dry the morning dew.

The radiant spring spreads its nourishing light,

All living things become then fresh and bright.

I dread the coming of the autumn drear,

When leaves turn yellow and red flowers sere.

A hundred streams flow eastwards to the sea

When to return to the west can they be free?

If one does not make good use of his youth,

In vain will he pass his old age in ruth.

A Long Song

Green, green, thesunflower,

Enjoys sun and shower.

Spring’s the grace of Nature;

The world she does nurture.

Autumn will fall I often fear

When leaves yellow and sear.

Rivers to East Sea pour,

And return never more.

In prime if you do not try,

When old you can but sigh.

A Long Ballad

The garden mallows are in fresh green hue,

The sun is rising to sparkle dew.

The spring’s blessing spreads to each place,

All living things shine with such grace.

Yet the dreadful autumn will come;

Flowers’ll wither, leaves yellow and glum.

Rivers flow east to the sea and never rest,

When will they ever turn back and run west?

If we do not strive in our youth,

In old age we’ll sigh in deep ruth.
